6 Tips to Reduce Your Home Air Conditioning Bill
In the summer, many people turn on their air conditioners to maintain a pleasant and cool indoor temperature. Considering that the average air temperature is constantly rising and the warm season is getting longer, electricity bills may also increase.
To help reduce your electricity bills at least partially, NØRDIS experts have prepared several useful tips that will help you use air conditioning more efficiently at home.
Choose the Right-Sized Air Conditioner
When selecting an air conditioner, pay attention to the size of your home and your needs. If the unit is too powerful for your space, you will end up paying more than necessary to run it. On the other hand, if it’s too small, it may not be able to properly cool the chosen area. Carefully calculate the room size and choose an air conditioner based on the room’s location and other specifications.
Keep the Air Conditioner On Only During the Day
Even though some summer days can be extremely hot and make you want to stay indoors, the air usually cools down in the evenings. On such days, remember to switch off the air conditioner in the evening and, most importantly, do not leave it running overnight. In many cases, the cool evening breeze through an open window is enough to lower the room temperature.
Choose an Energy-Efficient Air Conditioner
Before buying a new air conditioner, check its energy rating and opt for a higher-class product. This way, you will reduce electricity bills and save money in the long run. NØRDIS offers a wide range of energy-saving air conditioners, including models with on/off functions and inverter systems.
Set the Thermostat and Timer
Neither leaving the refrigerator door wide open nor setting the room temperature too low is a smart solution during the hottest summer days. The ideal indoor temperature should be between 22–24°C. You can also follow the rule that the indoor temperature should be about 8°C lower than the outdoor temperature. For example, if it’s 33°C outside, set your air conditioner to around 24–25°C.
Another useful feature is a timer. Some NØRDIS models come with a built-in timer so you don’t have to worry about switching the unit off after sunset. By setting specific operating hours, you’ll save both energy and money.
Clean the Filter
A filter clogged with dust and dirt can make the air conditioner work twice as hard to produce cool air, which over time may even lead to technical malfunctions. To extend your air conditioner’s lifespan, clean the filter every few months and replace it if necessary.
Block Out the Sunlight
Another effective way to keep your home cool is to avoid direct sunlight. Cover your windows with curtains, blinds, or other suitable options to block direct rays. Using light-colored fabrics can also help reduce heat gain. This way, you will ease the air conditioner’s workload and lower your electricity bill.
